Feeling a little cabin fever? Our schedule this month is the cure for that. Our calendar is packed full of regular programming and special events to keep you entertained all month long. Check it out:


On stage all month in the Mainstage Theater
: The Adventures of Mighty Bug. Scorpiana is on the loose and threatening the insect citizens of Bugville! Is our hero Mighty Bug up to the challenge? This action-packed, science-filled adventure takes you on a comic book-style adventure as Mighty Bug saves the day. This show features shadow, body and black light puppetry, and you’ll make a Lightning Bug Rod and String Puppet in the Create-A-Puppet Workshop.

On stage beginning 2/28 in the Downstairs Theater: Oliver Twist. Renowned one-man tour-de-force David Simpich brings the adventures of literature’s most famous orphan to life with all the passion, pathos and character of the literary classic. Oliver Twist is presented as part of our New Directions Series for adults and teens. (Performing 2/28-3/5)

In the Worlds of Puppetry Museum all month: Guided tours of the museum take place Tuesday-Friday at 1 pm, Saturday at 11 am. Guided tours of the Jim Henson Collection take place Tuesday-Friday at 3 pm, Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm.


Tale Time Thursday takes place every Thursday at 2 pm in the museum and is included with museum admission. Schedule is as follows:

  • 2/16: "Raven: A Trickster Tale from the Pacific Northwest" by Gerald McDermott

Feb. 3: Elmo’s birthday! Be sure to wish Elmo a happy birthday when you visit the Worlds of Puppetry Museum! He and his Sesame Street pals will be dressed for the occasion.


Feb. 4: Elmo’s Birthday Bash. Did you know that Elmo turns 3-and-a-half on every birthday? We’re celebrating him on Saturday, Feb. 4, with an Elmo’s World bounce house and free Elmo doughnuts from Bon Glaze. (Limited quantity of doughnuts; available while supplies last.) This event is included at no extra charge with your Museum or all-inclusive admission.  

Feb. 4: Puppet pop-up carts take place the first Saturday of every month from 11:00-3:00 and offer an in-depth look at different puppetry traditions from around the world. Get an up-close look of international puppets from our education collection, touch different materials used to build puppets, or just learn something new about puppetry around the world. This month, we’ll learn about Burmese puppetry in our Global Collection gallery and about basic puppet manipulation with the use of peeper puppets in our Jim Henson Collection gallery. Included with museum admission.


Feb. 5: On Sunday, Feb. 5, we present our sensory-friendly production of “The Adventures of Mighty Bug.” Performance alterations include theater lights dimmed down but not out, consistent sound levels and lower volume of show soundtrack, freedom for children to talk and to leave their seat if necessary, a quiet zone in the lobby, and permission to bring quiet, contained snacks and beverages. Feb. 5: Also happening Sunday, Feb. 5, we’re celebrating the DVD and Blu-ray release of Disney’s "Pinocchio." Join us for freebies and to enter to win a digital download of the movie!

Feb. 5: Volunteer Orientation, 3 pm 


Feb. 11: Looking for unique Valentine’s plans? We’ve got just the thing. Enjoy desserts and a cash bar; make your own Love Bird puppet; and join us as we discuss famous puppet couples from history and our museum, including Kermit and Miss Piggy. Valentine’s Night Out (7-10 pm) is a unique date night option at the Center for Puppetry Arts.

Feb. 18: When you attend The Adventures of Mighty Bug on Feb. 18, you will leave a special treat: Your own bug house that you’ll build yourself with our friends from Home Depot! Limited quantity; while supplies last. 11 am-2 pm.

Feb. 19: Junior Explorer: Create a Cardboard Puppet Pal. Participants create a moving mouth puppet head using pre-cut corrugated cardboard shapes. This workshop was developed to build the basic puppet head and then students are encouraged to decorate their own unique character with additional materials provided. Workshop concludes with a mini lip-sync lesson and tips on how to add character to your puppet.

Feb. 20: Volunteer Orientation, 1 pm 


Feb. 25: Dress Up Day w/ Mighty Bug. Our hero Mighty Bug saves the day, and so can you. Wear your superhero costume to either the 12 pm or 2 pm performances of "The Adventures of Mighty Bug," and you'll be entered to win four tickets to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta at Phipps Plaza!
