The Field Trip Sponsorship Program ensures that children from diverse backgrounds have the opportunity to experience an educational, arts-infused day at the Center for Puppetry Arts. This may include a puppetry performance, a visit to the puppetry museum, and a hands-on Create-A-Puppet Workshop. Through this program, the Center provides approximately 65,000 free and deeply discounted tickets (up to 69 percent off) each year to low-income and under-served students.
Approximately half of the public school children who participate in the Center’s programming are from Title I schools, which are designated as such due to the large number of low-income students they serve. In addition, the Center has a long record of serving children with visual or hearing impairments, learning disabilities, emotional disorders, and other physical or mental disabilities.
Arts education is a powerful and proven tool for inspiration and learning, and helps children develop critical thinking skills. For a child who has had little or no exposure to the arts, a field trip to the Center can be truly life-changing. The Field Trip Sponsorship Program ensures that children from all backgrounds have access to what has become a shared memory for several decades of Atlanta’s youth.
