Members of the local and national media attended the Wednesday, July 25,
2007 press conference in addition to Center board members, donors and
sponsors. Vince Anthony, executive director of the Center began the event
by announcing the news and explaining what such a momentous gift means
to the Center.
“What the Henson family is offering us is an institution-changing
gift,” Anthony said. “They have given us the opportunity to
make the Center into an international destination. They have created a
challenge for us, the Atlanta community, and others who wish to step forward
and partner with us in making this dream a reality. This will allow us
to embrace their monumental offer and in return present a new museum worthy
of such a collection.”
Following Vince, Jane Henson, Jim Henson's widow, said a few words about
her family's history with the Center. Then Cheryl Henson, President of
The Jim Henson Foundation, spoke about her family’s decision to
place this definitive collection at the Center for Puppetry Arts.
“We are delighted the Center for Puppetry Arts will make it possible
for the public to see and experience the full breadth of this extraordinary
work that reaches across generations and countries to touch everybody,”
Ms. Henson said.
Following her speech, Vince Anthony and Cheryl Henson stood as a historic
Kermit the Frog puppet was revealed in the Center’s atrium as the
focal point of the current special exhibit Jim Henson: A Man and his
