Jim Henson: A Man and His Frog profiles Jim Henson and his most
famous puppet. Photographs of Jim and the world's most famous frog, dating
back to their early days with Sam and Friends, accompany a magnificent
photo puppet of Kermit the Frog and a special portrait of Kermit the Frog
and Miss Piggy as Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. Jim Henson: A Man
and His Frog inaugurates a series of preview exhibitions leading to
the proposed Jim Henson Wing of the Center for Puppetry Arts.

On Sunday, September 23rd, the Center celebrated its 29th anniversary
with a very special event: the opening of the new special exhibit, Jim
Henson: Puppeteer! Jane and Heather Henson cut the ceremonial ribbon
to open the exhibit. The evening also featured a special Q&A panel
with Jane and Heather Henson as well as members of the Jim Henson Legacy,
Brad Clark, exhibit curator, and Vincent Anthony, executive director of
the Center.
Jim Henson: Puppeteer opened to the public on Tuesday, September
25, 2007 and will be on Long-Term Display.
The exhibit features many puppets that Jim performed and created including
Ernie, Rowlf the Dog, the La Choy Dragon, Dr. Teeth, The Swedish Chef,
Bugsy Them and others. In addition to these puppets the exhibit features
personal archival photographs, seldom seen designs and doodles, sketches,
quotes and a behind-the-scenes video.
Jim Henson: Puppeteer is one in a series of anticipated special
exhibitions opening prior to the proposed Jim Henson Wing. This unique
display provides a glimpse of Jim Henson’s many joyful creations
that will be on view in the years to come.
“As we enter our 30th year it is only fitting that the Henson family
continues with us in this remarkable journey to bring a world class puppetry
museum to Atlanta for the entire world to enjoy,” said Vince Anthony,
Executive Director at the Center. “The opportunity to have the Jim
Henson Wing as part of our future is a rare gift that challenges the Center
and the community to make this dream come true.”
