While Japan’s puppetry is best known internationally for the work of Osaka’s National Bunraku Theatre, both traditional and contemporary puppetry can be seen throughout Japan. Tokyo’s innovative Tsunobue Troupe utilizes intricately designed colored shadow figures and technically complex projection systems to create some of the most sophisticated shadow puppetry productions ever seen.
