Discovering Treasure at String Fling 2006!
Ahoy ye mateys! This year's gala set sail on a search for hidden treasure,
and it was found in many different ways throughout the evening. Many found
a bounty of treasures in the fantastic items that were up for bid in our
live and silent auctions. And everyone found a very special treasure in
mingling, chatting and creating new friendships with those who love and
cherish the Center for Puppetry Arts.
Held in the beautiful Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center's Grand
Ballroom, guests enjoyed a swashbuckling good time as they sipped cocktails
and dined on fine cuisine, served up with a tropical flair! One of the
highlights of the night was the amazing performance by renowned puppeteer
Jim Gamble. Meanwhile, bidding became competitive as guests vied for the
many spectacular items up for auction, including vacation getaways to
Italy; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and California, beautiful artwork, gorgeous
black pearl jewelry, and even a private cruise on a 60 foot sailboat!
Now the treasure hunt continues as thousands of children will continue
to discover the magic and wonders at the Center. The funds generated through
String Fling will help support all of our educational programming, including
Distance Learning, which allows the Center to reach out to children across
the globe. Committee chairs included Corin McCarthy (Corporate), Kathryn
Chan and Annie-York Trujillo (Patrons), and Tiffany Easton and Michael
Dowdle (Auction), headed by Development and Special Events Committee Chair,
Becky Riley. Thanks to their support, as well as the support of all of
our sponsors and donors, the Center can continue to provide over 140,000
reduced-price tickets and 40,000 complimentary tickets to underserved
audiences.
